A dessert doesn't need to be complicated to be worth making. These four all use ordinary ingredients, and none of them ask for equipment beyond a baking dish and a bowl.
If you're baking for the first time in a while, the main thing to watch is your oven's actual temperature — ovens often run hotter or cooler than their dial suggests, so check a little early the first time you make any of these.
The one with cooked fruit
There's a reason crumble turns up again and again.
The topping is forgiving — a little more or less butter won't spoil it. Serve it warm, with custard or a spoon of yoghurt if you'd like something cooler alongside.
Its cousin, with stone fruit
Tinned peaches work perfectly well here if fresh ones aren't in season — just drain them first so the filling isn't too wet.
Something you don't bake at all
For when the oven's the last thing you want to think about.
Mostly a matter of stirring and chilling. Make it the morning you plan to serve it, or even the day before — it only gets better for sitting in the fridge a little longer.
A little tart, properly done
Sharp and sweet in the right balance. A small slice goes a long way, which makes it a good choice if you're serving a few people and want everyone to have a taste.
A note on nutrition: SnackChat works out the calories and macros for each of these from the ingredients themselves — no guessing — so you can see exactly what a serving looks like before you decide how big a slice to cut.
